Tuesday, June 19, 2018: "Ethically Bound-The Struggle is Real", 6 CE's, 08:30 a.m.-4:15 p.m.

Workshop is designed to provide participants with an overview of Georgia standards and codes for conduct for ethical decision making. Ever had a difficult case and wondered if you made the right decision? We will discuss the cases that often prove to be difficult, worrisome, or at times, causes an internal conflict for the mental health clinician.

We will explore and develop a clear working understanding of the ethical standards and their application in real life counseling scenarios. We will engage in experiential learning experiences that will explore common ethical errors counselors make, evaluate ways of resolving ethical issues, and etc.

Welcome to the Worldof Play Therapy

Wednesday, June 20, 2018 (AM Workshop), Three CEs 

(0830-1200 pm)


Attendees will be given a brief overview of the field of play therapy, helping them understand the rationale for play therapy intervention. We will briefly explore and discuss key theoretical contributors, in addition to exploring varying play therapy approaches, (Adlerian, Child-Centered, Directive, Filial, etc.).

There will be an exploration of a variety of approaches to play, with emphasis on the skill building, application of technique, and use of the sand tray, as a means to communicate with children and teens in the play room.

(1:00 pm-4:30 pm)


This 3-hour live contact workshop is designed to provide the participants with a brief introduction to the field of play therapy. They will be given an overview of play therapy, provided by notable key theorists who have contributed to the field of play therapy. This will allow the participants to explore the application of theoretical perspectives in practice further.


During this basic foundation course, participants will be exposed to varying theoretical orientations and approaches to include child-centered play therapy, developmental play therapy, Adlerian Play Therapy, and Filial Therapy.

Ethical Dilemmas in Play Therapy (Late Evening Workshop)

This workshop is designed to provide participants with an overview of the importance of adhering to "clearly" defined ethical practices and expectations and suggestive resolutions for the unavoidable ethical dilemmas that arise in the field of play therapy.

Attendees will explore and define ethical guidelines defined by the Association for Play Therapy to include the therapeutic relationship, the role of parents/guardians in the therapeutic experience, defining the client, maintaining confidentiality, establishing boundaries and limits, etc in play therapy.

Play Therapy 102, Application and Practice (Full Day Workshop)

This play therapy workshop will give attendees an overview of the essential play therapy skills that include tracking, reflecting feelings, setting limits, building rapport, etc. During the first portion of the Play Therapy workshop, participants will explore the theoretical influences of the field of play therapy.


We will explore and review notable influencers in the field of psychotherapy and play therapy practice, which will include (but will not be limited to), Axline, Rogers, Landreth, Schaefer, Rogers and many more, in addition to examining how their theories and ideas influence practice and rationale for therapeutic interventions in play therapy.


During the second portion of the training, participants will be provided with opportunities for enhanced application and practice of play therapy by working directly with clients utilizing the following key play therapy skills (i.e. tracking, reflecting feelings, setting limits, etc.), in addition to sand tray intervention.


Participants will be provided with in-class demonstration with children, in addition to "hands-on" practice with children utilizing varying techniques and modalities.


Please dress appropriately and be prepared to work with children on the floor or on small ottomans in the playroom (individual and small group application and technique will be explored and demonstrated).

Play Therapy Assessments: Expanding Your Toolkit (Late Evening Workshop)

This workshop is designed to provide participants with an overview of the clinical assessment process, specific to play therapy interventions. Attendees will be exposed to a variety of play therapy techniques (validated by research), that can be utilized as a part of the assessment process, in addition to being provided with applicable scenarios that one can utilize in their treatment approaches with clients.


Skill building exercises will be included in this workshop to provide participants with the practice of newly learned skills.

Creative Interventions in Play Therapy (Full Day Workshop)

This workshop is designed for the participant interested in creative and innovative ways to connect with their clients. Have you ever had a difficult client that you felt disconnected from? Play therapy allows members of the helping profession to connect to individuals when traditional talk therapy is not effective.


This training provides participants with a different lens and perspective when considering clients across the lifespan, and interested in adding additional therapeutic techniques to their toolset.

Grief and Loss Issues in Play Therapy (Late Evening Workshop)

This training is designed to serve as a source of education and enlightenment for caregivers and clinicians providing assistance to families that have been impacted by grief and loss. Participants will be provided with an overview of grief, and the impact it has on childhood development.


We will also explore how play therapy provides children with a safe outlet for expressing their grief. Attendees will be introduced to an array of play therapy techniques that can be helpful in assisting the family unit with developing and implementing coping skills.

Trauma Heroes: Sexual Trauma Implications in Sand Play (Full Day
Workshop)

8:30 a.m.-4:15 p.m.


Attendees will learn strategies for addressing the complex treatment needs of abused and traumatized children. The lecture will provide a clinical overview of trauma, particularly sexual trauma, and the application of clinical interventions using play therapy and sand play.


Attendees should be prepared to engage in practical application of sand play techniques during training and to be provided with case examples for discussion.

Implementing the Family in the Play Therapy Experience (Late Evening)
